Best Buy offering free electronics recycling
Posted by Joe P on June 3, 2008
Best Buy is going to give a new recycling program a whirl, one that will allow customers to deposit their old electronics for free. Yes, there’s a limit per two items per day, per household, but we figure it’s easy enough to spread out if you want. So instead of letting your old electronics sit and gather dust — or worse, sit in a landfill — you can bring them to Best Buy. They’ll take your televisions and monitors up to 32 inches, computers, phones, cameras, and other electronics devices off your hands free of charge.
The program is running now, and is available at 117 stores in the Baltimore, San Francisco, and Minnesota markets. Old programs, like recycling kiosks for smaller recyclables, appliance and television haul-away, and tech trade-in will still be available at all retail outlets.
Sorry, but if you’re looking to offload a TV or monitor larger than 32 inches, a console TV, air conditioner, microwave, or home appliance, you won’t be able to drop it off at Best Buy. Looks like you can still pay them $100 to haul away two appliances and/or televisions, though.
Without getting too preachy about recycling, it’s important, especially for electronics, which are toxic in our soil. That is all.
