Your daily dose of mobile links. Remember, if you’ve got anything you want to see featured here, send it along to jpawlikowski, that little at symbole, goingcellular.com. Isn’t it sad that to avoid spam we can’t even link our email addresses?
- Verizon added 1.5 million customers in the first quarter. It was a decrease of 13 percent from last year, but it’s still the best mark in the industry. Churn rose to 1.18 percent, but average monthly customer revenue rose 1.3 percent, on the heels of the unlimited plans. Verizon now has 67.2 million subscribers.
- Skype launched a Java-based phone application for its VoIP and chat service. It’s in beta, and is only available in Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweeden, and the UK for the moment. This service will not go over well with U.S. carriers, methinks.
- Looking to get out of your contract? Cellular South will pay your early termination fee. Well, you pay it, really, and they credit you up to $200 on your new account. Still, it’s better than eating the ETF completely.
- Nokia is still No. 1. They shipped 14.3 percent more handsets in the first quarter this year than last year, and have a corner on 39 percent of the market.
- TmoNews.com, a T-Mobile news site which launched earlier this month, claims that prorated early termination fees are coming June 30. This will help gauge their credibility.
