Mobile Notes: Sidekick, Flash, Moto Q9c, iPhone WiFi

Is it possible for one day to go by without an iPhone article? Hey, I don’t write ‘em, I just link ‘em. But we’re seeing talks of the 3G iPhone, price reductions, lack of success in Western Europe, fabricated competition with BlackBerry…the list keeps going on. I guess it keeps the guys at The Apple Phone Show in business.
- Well, we might as well start with it. AT&T has 71,000 WiFi hotspots nationwide, and are beginning to implement more at Starbucks. And now they’re offering free access to iPhone users. They’re requiring that you enter your phone number for access, so chances are that hacked iPhones won’t be able to take advantage.
- Engadget Mobile has May 15 as the release date for the Motorola Q9c through Verizon. This will complete their trifecta, which also includes the LG enV2 (according to my VZW dealer, it’s terrible) and the HTC Touch, er, XV6900 (according to her, it’s the coolest phone ever).
- It looks like the two rumored Sidekicks are really just one model, the Gekko. TmoNews tells us to be on the look out for a July 30 release date. I wonder if it will have WiFi. Also, they drop a vague hint of yet another Sidekick coming even later this year. We’ll see, Tmo.
- Adobe is licensing Flash for free for mobile phones. That should spur innovation and improve mobile Web experiences. This news might be flying under the radar a bit now, but trust me, you’re going to be reaping the benefits soon enough.
