Mobile Notes: Samsung Instinct, Incoming calls, Wind power, iPhone tether

Not that this comes as much of a surprise, but AT&T will not offer tethering for the iPhone. It’s a shame for those who want to somehow cut out one of their Internet bills. Hey, it’s one Internet, but we have to pay to access it in multiple ways? Once again, we shouldn’t come to expect things from big telecoms, especially when they have exclusive (i.e., non-competitive) deals on popular handsets. Looks like that extra $10 per month for iPhone data will just buy you 3G speeds.
Phone Scoop reviews the Samsung Instinct. Their complaint about the touchscreen seems universal: You have to press the screen for a response, rather than just tapping it. They also don’t like the video and camera software, and think that the signal quality doesn’t cut it.
The European Union telecom chief thinks that mobile users should pay for incoming calls. Think that will sit well with consumers?
UK provider Orange will be erecting a mobile phone recharging tent at the Glastonbury music festival in a few weeks. It will run on wind power, and will be able to charge 100 phones at once. Sounds like something that could catch on at multi-day festivals.
