Mobile Notes: Samsung, AT&T, Phone recycling, Sprint, Helio

Clearly, I’m no big fan of the iPhone. However, here’s a real iPhone story: The prototype of iControlpad. It fits around your iPhone, adding a directional pad and buttons. It will take a while for everything to actually become available, but at some point we’ll be seeing Playstation, Super Nintendo, Genesis, and Nintendo games playable from the iPhone. And all with an easy interface. Truly something to get excited about.
- This is a European release, but Samsung is putting out the L870 with the Apple Safari browser. Do you really hate your customers that much, Samsung?
- AT&T is releasing a Pantech phone aimed at seniors. This will compete with Verizon’s senior offering, the Coupe.
- Soon, there will be so many recycling programs that you’ll no longer have an excuse. This one is through ReCellular, benefitting the American Red Cross. Why don’t all carriers just give you an envelope in which to send your phone back when you buy a new one? Virgin Mobile does.
- Ooh, the Helio Ocean 2! Yeah, I’m a big fan of the device. It’s a dual slider like the original, with a gig of internal memory, and a 3 megapixel camera. Or at least that’s what’s being tested.
- More on Sprint’s 5 GB data cap. It won’t affect Simply Everything plans, as it applies to tethering and broadband access cards. And one month of overages won’t kill you, either. It’ll take three running months before Sprint takes action.
