Mobile Notes: iPhone rumor, iPod SMS, Health risks, Verizon Centro
Posted by Joe P on June 9, 2008
So there was an iPhone rumor hitting hard this weekend. Some think it’s gold, others think it’s bunk. Apple has done a good job of at least masking their leaks. I guess it helps play up their hype. On the other hand, it seems that Research In Motion is gaining hype with a leak of its own iPhone-esque device.
The Palm Centro is headed to Verizon, and we’re seeing some preliminary release and pricing info. The dominant rumor now has the device being available on June 13, which is Friday, for $269.99 with a two-year contract. The mail-in rebate is $70, knocking the price just shy of $200.
Think your phone gives you cancer? There have been some studies that say yes, some that say it’s inconclusive. Looks like another study will be conducted. I still think it’s going to be a while before we see any conclusive findings regarding effects on long-term health.
A new service called MogoTXT allows you to send SMS through your iPod Touch WiFi connection. They’re ad-supported. If you have a cell phone with a Web plan, you can check it out, too. Just not if you’re on Verizon.
