Mobile Notes: Google, T-Mobile, iPhone, Sony Ericsson

Posted by Joe P on June 17, 2008

Think Google just dominates search on the desktop Internet? Think again. Through the first quarter of 2008, Google has 61 percent of mobile searches, leaving Yahoo in the dust at 18 percent. This is quite strange, given the voice capabilities of Yahoo’s oneSearch. But it’s still in beta, so perhaps when it hits full release we’ll start to see a shift in how mobile users search the Web. The overall satisfaction with mobile search is still low, so there’s definitely room for Yahoo or even Microsoft to gain some market share.

T-Mobile German is really subsidizing the iPhone. Like, really subsidizing it. If you sign up for a monthly plan of over 69 euros, you can get the 8 gigger for 1 euro, or the 16 gigger for 40 euros. I’m not sure what the exact conversion is at the moment, but that 69 euros seems to be kind of in line with the 99 dollar unlimited plans offered by the major carriers. If only AT&T would do the same…

Well, they’re starting to get some quality cameras into these phones nowadays. The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot was announced, and it has an 8.1 megapixel camera. Yikes. I’d like one, please.

T-Mobile has issued a Sidekick LX update. Now, where’s that Sidekick Gekko?
