Mobile Notes: Cell shopping, T-Mobile, Sprint, Video streaming

How do you go about shopping for cell phones? Personally, I’m an Internet guy. Of course, I like playing with the phone before I buy it. But I tend to do research online, and the sale usually occurs over the Web, since the price is further discounted — or in the case of Verizon (among others), your mail-in rebate becomes an instant rebate. And you can never discount the power of an instant rebate over a mail-in one.
- A stody shows that 59 percent of shoppers ask salespeople for advice on buying a phone. Even when I go to a store to play with a phone, I don’t ask the salespeople. Apparently, though, only 46 percent actually go to one or more stores before swiping their card.
- TmoNews says that we could be 16 phones launched by the company between June 16 and August 1. Highlights include the Shadow II, the BlackBerry Bold, and the BlackBerry Kickstart. Also on the list is the Shadow III. I’m not so sure the BlackBerry devices will be out before September.
- Daily Wireless has a bit on Webcasting from your phone. If you have video capabilities, check it out.
- Sprint will continue a trend of purging customers by cracking down on customers who roam excessively and who use more than 5GB of data. It’s like Sprint wants to continue losing a million customers a quarter. Seriously, though, this is part of their new strategy to offer service to only the most profitable customers.
