Mobile Notes: Cell reception, iPhone (!!), WiMAX, Philips
Posted by Joe P on May 7, 2008
As I was browsing the news yesterday, I started to get excited. Maybe there wouldn’t be anything substantial on the iPhone! It would be quite the day, let me tell you. But then I found something. It might not be deemed exactly substantial, but hey, what would Mobile Notes be without an iPhone mention?
- Have trouble getting reception at work or home? Mobility Site reviews the Freedom Blade antenna. Word is that it took him “from no bars to 4 bars in the middle of a 2nd floor of a 3 story brick building.” Worth a look, at least.
- Last year, Apple circulated a memo telling its employees that there were no vacations between June 15 and July 15, because of the June 29 iPhone release. This year, it’s June 15 and July 12. Hmm…
- Ready for WiMAX? Sprint, Google, Intel, Time Warner, Comcast, and Clearwire have teamed up to make it happen. Each company has its own reason: “Sprint Nextel, which has struggled in recent years against a much stronger Verizon and AT&T, is looking to capitalize on its ownership of spectrum; the cable companies are looking to create an additional service to provide broadband access outside the home; Intel would like to sell its chips and generally expand computer use; and Google hopes to develop another platform for advertising.”
- Looks like Philips is planning an iPhone look alike. Not many details on it, but it looks pretty sleek.
