Limited trade-in for 3G iPhones
Posted by Joe P on June 12, 2008
If you bought a regular-old, crappy original iPhone after May 27, you must have impulses the likes of which have never been seen. At that point, it was all but a certainty that the 3G iPhone would be announced on June 9. But hey, some people don’t spend their days reading blogs, so they might not have been in the know. Those unlucky folks, though, will get a break, as they can trade in their model to get a snazzy new 3G iPhone. Not only that, but they’ll also get a refund for the price difference. May 27 seems reasonable enough; two weeks before the announcement, minus a day because of the Memorial Day holiday.
For the rest of the iPhone-owning masses out there, AT&T doesn’t care to have your device. So please, once you get your 3G iPhone, everyone please throw theirs in eBay, so I can buy one for $20 and just play with it via WiFi.
Engadget also notes that there will be a “non-qualified” price for those who aren’t able to extend their service agreement by two years, for whatever reason. There will be terms and conditions that disqualify nearly everyone from the program. But hey, at least they’re making accommodations.
