AT&T to help the homeless
Posted by Joe P on December 21, 2007
So we figured we’d break for the Christmas holiday with a feel-good story. The St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco is teaming up with AT&T to provide free phone calls to the homeless in the area. AT&T will set up shop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the foundation’s headquarters, and will have 20 domestic and 10 international phones available, at no cost to the homeless (can you imagine if they tried to charge even a minimal fee?). We hope that refreshments will be served as well.
Clearly, those wandering the streets of San Francisco have a bit more to worry about than the phone numbers of long-lost friends and family. Computers will be on-hand to aid in finding these phone numbers. Maybe one of them will be taken in for the holidays, which would give this gesture a happy ending.
“Poverty and homelessness can be terribly isolating, and one of the most powerful things a person trapped in the crisis of poverty can do is connect with those that love them,” said Executive Director John Hardin.
We couldn’t agree more. Hopefully more than a few people will have a happy holidays as a result of this.
