AT&T rolls out Napster phone
Posted by Joe P on November 20, 2007
About a month ago, AT&T announced a partnership with Napster, the digital music service. Now they’re ready to roll out a phone that will support it. The SLM by Samsung is ready to go, and should be available on — guess when — Black Friday.
The deal with Napster is the same as announced last month $7.49 for five tracks, or $2 each. Unfortunately, the most attractive Napster offering — $15 per month for unlimited downloads, though the songs expire when you cease service — doesn’t appear to be available at this time through AT&T.
In addition to Napster Mobile, the new 3-ounce SLM phone includes other features, such as AT&T Video Share, stereo Bluetooth, a 2.0-megapixel camera with video capture, and expandable memory through a microSD card slot. AT&T claims the phone offers download speeds of 600 Kbps to 1,400 Kbps on its HSDPA third-generation cellular network.
The phone will also be compatible with AT&T’s newly-announced mobile banking. Subscribers who belong to a number of financial institutions can manage their accounts online, including transferring funds and paying bills.
And finally, the cost. The SLM is $150 with a two-year contract and a $50 mail-in rebate. Elbows up, people. Time to brave the Black Friday crowds.
